The Status of Brook Trout Populations in Duncan Creek, Chippewa

چکیده

Land acquisition along the stream for angler access, streambank protection and habitat improvement began in the early 1960s. In 1985, a master plan for the stream was approved and these lands were consolidated into the Duncan Creek Fishery Area. The fishery area covers Duncan Creek from its headwaters downstream to 190 Avenue, immediately above Lake Como. Approximately 7.8 miles of the stream thread are under Department control through streambank easements (primarily) and Department ownership (181 acres). Three properties along the creek remain totally in private ownership.

Influence of Habitat Type on Food Supply, Selectivity, and Diet Overlap of Bonneville Cutthroat Trout and Nonnative Brook Trout in Beaver Creek, Idaho

—We collected invertebrate drift samples and stomach contents of native Bonneville cutthroat trout Oncorhynchus clarki utah and nonnative brook trout Salvelinus fontinalis in Beaver Creek, Idaho, during August 1995 to assess food availability and the potential for competition. Regardless of whether samples came from beaver pond or from high-gradient or low-gradient reaches, aquatic Diptera nume...

Invasion by Nonnative Brook Trout in Panther Creek, Idaho: Roles of Local Habitat Quality, Biotic Resistance, and Connectivity to Source Habitats

—Theoretical models and empirical evidence suggest that the invasion of nonnative species in freshwaters is facilitated through the interaction of three factors: habitat quality, biotic resistance, and connectivity. We measured variables that represented each factor to determine which were associated with the occurrence of nonnative brook trout Salvelinus fontinalis in Panther Creek, a tributar...

An investigation on the effects of juvenile rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) and brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis) monoculture and duo-culture farming in freshwater and seawater on growth performance

The objective of this study was to compare growth performance and feed conversion ratios of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) and brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis) juveniles in monoculture and duo-culture in freshwater and seawater under aquarium conditions. The fish were about 2-months old hatchery-reared brook and rainbow trout with initial weights of 0.934±0.033 (n=360) and 1.014±0.019 (...

Evaluation of otolith shape variability in hatchery-reared brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis), Black Sea trout (Salmo trutta labrax) and their hybrid

In aquaculture, the process of hybridization is used to produce animals that have better growth rates, meat quality, and higher resistance and tolerance to environmental variations than their parental species. The identification of a hybrid fish may require a DNA-based technology that is an expensive process. In this study, the sagittal otolith shape of hatchery-reared brook trout (Salvelinus f...
